 The BOH center will provide a place where training and education can take place…  A place where the Hopeless can find Hope...A place where lives can be changed.

Project Description: The construction of an enrichment center in Orealla. This enrichment center will provide a place where education, training, and safe recreation can take place to bring hope to the people of Orealla. The goal is to share Christ by serving others...

The proposed building is a two-story concrete block building which will house a training center, dormitory, and recreation center. The upper flat will consist of dorms, living quarters for a caretaker, and a conference room. The lower flat will consist of a kitchen, recreation/games room, training room, computer room and a dining room.

As a volunteer and partner with Bags of Hope and the Church of the  Nazarene, you will feel that deep satisfaction that comes from serving God by serving others. You will share in the joy of knowing that you have been instrumental in changing the lives of an entire community in Guyana’s rainforest!

Why Care?

Because we want to bring HOPE to the people of Orealla and Siparuta… some of poorest people in the southern hemisphere can be found in Guyana’s Rainforest.

fact_1EDUCATION—training and teaching skills to develop a sustainable community: Arts and Crafts, Jam-making, hammock making, etc. so that items produced can be marketed and sold outside of the community.



FACT (NDS Guyana):  Malaria & worm infestation is endemic in most interior areas—diarrhea & diseases related to unacceptable sanitation and drinking water are also prevalent due to             contaminated rivers and creeks.

Clean Water- provide, fresh safe drinking water, to these communities in order to combat these preventable diseases



FACT (GHRA Study):  Young Amerindian girls between ages 12 and 16 years are the most vulnerable to sexual violence and teenage pregnancy

Youth Enrichment Training and recreation center– Teaching young men and women good character traits.. Also, providing a safe place for good, clean, recreation.


FACT (IMF 2000)- 95 per cent of   local Amerindians live in extreme poverty

This center will provide the necessary resources for community to become self-sufficient and sustainable by making available:

Food     Clean Water   Education     Jobs

FACT (UNDP)-Amerindian communities are dependent on the wages from migrant leave their families for work in mining and logging for long periods of time resulting in neglect of children and excessive burden on women

Create safe, green jobs within the community utilizing their natural resources– such as rainforest tours, canoeing, kayaking, zip-lining, etc.




FACT (NDS Guyana):  Hunting and fishing grounds are being destroyed by mining & logging companies.

Creation of Fish Farms and Cattle Ranches in order to provide a good source of protein for the community. Excess meat and fish will be sold to surrounding communities.
